It was the first time a Heron Angling Society competition was held out of Herne Bay with 11 anglers making their way to Deal beaches for the Jackson Cup on Sunday 19th May.
With bright sunshine throughout the afternoon and reasonably strong NE winds, the comp was fished right up the flood to 7pm.
Fishing became very difficult in the last hour or so however, as the strong tide was causing leads to break free. Nonetheless the competitors persevered and although catches were a little disappointing, 6 managed to bring dogfish to the scales.
The heaviest went to K. Grove at 1.70lbs but it was P. Thornton who just managed to pip B. Morris to top spot with both anglers bagging three-a-piece. There were also smoothhounds caught but none sizeable.
Results as follows;
1st- P. Thornton, 3 fish, 3.64lbs
2nd- B. Morris, 3 fish, 3.46lbs
3rd- K. Grove, 1 fish, 1.70lbs
4th- B. Perry-French, 1 fish, 1.60lbs (junior)
5th- M. Finch, 1 fish, 1.16lbs
6th- D. Foreman, 1 fish, 1.06lbs
