Maureen cup beach competition results

It's always rather nice when something special happens in a competition and this one didn't disappoint!
Ten anglers entered the Heron's Maureen cup beach competition on Saturday evening and the event started with flat calm seas and really quite pleasant weather. By the end however, the wind picked up to near gale proportions from the NW and the heavens opened too which made the last hour very hard work.
Entrants spread out from Studd Hill to Cold Harbour expecting a relatively busy night from the whiting.
Whilst that was generally the case, the talking point came from junior member Bradley Perry-French who was fishing on the harbour arm with his brother and grandad. Bradley returned with a stonking Thornback Ray which pulled the scales down to 13lbs 1.0oz!!! Not only did this win him the match but also the heavy fish pool and a club bronze specimen medal.
Aside from the ray, catches were all whiting with a couple of dogfish. One for M. Morris and one for Simon Stephenson who took second spot with a resounding 31 fish for 12lbs 6.2oz fishing just past Reculver.
Third place went to B. Morris with 16 fish which included a bass of 2lbs 3oz from Cold Harbour.
