Sunday 6th December saw 11 anglers take to Herne Bays beaches for the Herons last championship beach competition of the year, the accumulator.
The event gets its name as cash prizes are awarded based on a percentage of monies raised throughout the year but winners lose money if they have missed competitions, their loss is handed down to the next placed angler and so on.
Competitors spread themselves out with some fishing cold harbour and middle bank, while others opted for the harbour arm and the west beaches.
Catches were really good in the end with all 11 weighing in a catch. The heaviest fish of the night fell for S. Stephenson fishing the harbour arm with a Thornback Ray of 7lbs 12.8oz. This, along with 27 other fish including dogfish and whiting put Simon in 2nd place with 20lbs 3.6oz
1st place went to B. Morris, also fishing the arm. Ben had two rays of his own, the biggest at 7lbs 1.8oz as well as 30 more fish for 23lbs 4.3oz
3rd place went to M. Morris who took the long walk to cold harbour and had a good bag of 29 fish for 17lbs 8.8oz.
