Lawler Pairs Boat Competition results

Sunday 7th April saw the return of the Heron’s annual Lawler Pairs Boat Competition. Whilst individual results are recorded for the championship points, the trophy is awarded to the biggest aggregate weight of entrants in their pairs.
Ten anglers set out in foggy and wet conditions which steadily improved as the day went on. The Northerly breeze dropped to near nothing by the end of the event.
Overall it was tough going, catches of rays were less prevalent as expected and even the dogfish seemed to be having a day off. Nonetheless, both species were weighed in as well as the obligatory whiting and it was nice to see Bradley Perry-French land a smoothhound around the 5lbs mark.
David Morris boated the heaviest fish of the day, a 7lbs 2oz Thornback Ray whilst cousin Ben Morris found the numbers with 4. These fish along with 20 others got him top spot whilst his partner, father Tony Morris, came in second. With a combined weight of 67lbs 3.8oz, the pair won the event.
