Charsley Lunch competition.

Micro species were the order of the day for anglers competing in the Herons annual Charsley Lunch competition.

22 entrants set up outside the club house on Herne Bay's west beach and fished right up the flood tide from 12pm to 1600hrs. Fair weather conditions favoured the event with no rain and only a light SW breeze. The fishing was slow from the off with only Bradley Perry-French weighing in a relatively decent flounder of 0.74lbs before lunch was served.

Steak and chicken pies with mash and veg followed by fruit pies and custard fuelled the competitors nicely for the second stint as more fish were brought to the scales. With no minimum size requirements; fish are weighed and returned immediately, Andy Wells amused all with a whiting of 0.06lbs and set the tone for most of the remaining catches.

Tony Morris managed another nice flounder however, pulling the scales down to a mighty 0.92lbs while others weighed in dabs, whiting, rockling and Phil Gower even bagged a bass of 0.16lbs.
Top prize in the end was unusually split 3 ways, with 10 of the 22 weighing in catches throughout a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
