Old Rules Competition Results

Sunday 6th September saw the return of the Heron Angling Society's annual 'old rules' boat competition.
In the event, participants may only ROW their boats out from the club house and must be back within the allotted four hours. In addition, only one rod may be used per angler but with up to four hooks.
Five boats comprising eleven anglers took part in this years event in what can only be described as perfect, flat calm conditions.
Catches were excellent and varied too, with skate, whiting, dogfish, dabs, smooth hound and codling landed.
The best of the fish fell for G. Mummery with a ray of 7lbs 14.2oz but the surprising element of the match was that he and his partner, P. Gower, anchored up at only about 500yds from the shore and between them boated seven thornbacks.
In the next boat slightly further out from them was D. Perry who caught a lovely plump codling of 2lbs 13.6oz along with a smooth hound pup of 3lbs 3.0oz, his partner K. Morris also boated a ray of 5lbs 1.4oz.
The other boats ventured further still and anchored nearer to the pier head. The numbers were on their side with T. Morris landing 31 sizeable fish and his partner B. Morris on 20 but the bigger specimens eluded them.
Junior twins Bradley and Lewis were further out still and brought back 15 fish each.

Full results as follows;
1st- G. Mummery, 13 fish, 34lbs 0.7oz
