Absolutely horrendous conditions greeted the fourteen anglers who signed in for day 1 of the Heron's two day Beach Festival on Saturday 21st November. The wind was gusting upwards of 45mph from the NW so casting was made incredibly difficult and as the tide came up, the swell meant leads were getting washed up the beach almost as soon as they were put out.
Conditions were so poor, virtually everyone packed up early although eight did manage to weigh in a catch. Aside from R. Gower's rockling, all bags were made up with whiting with D. Smith taking the lead. Dave caught 11 sizeable whiting by hiding from the elements down the side of Hampton jetty whilst T. Morris had 10 from Lane End.
Sunday's weather was more favourable although still taxing as the wind from the NW persisted. Catches were notably better however with T. Morris returning to Lane End for an additional 30 fish whilst junior member L. Perry-French worked his way into 2nd place with 17 whiting of his own including the competitions heaviest fish of 12.6oz.
