Four boats comprising eight anglers set out from the club house on Sunday 24th April 2016 for the Lawler Pairs competition.
Here, weights are combined between partners for the trophy but individual weights are also recorded towards the championship.
Weather conditions were less than ideal with a steady 15mph NW wind and occasional gusts on a very overcast day.
All the boats opted for the pier head area as catches of rays have been better close in of late.
Relative new-comers D. Morris and I. Morris set out in a small 'tod' with a borrowed British seagull outboard directly from the beach outside the club for their first trip out and they weren't disappointed as both landed their first rays as well as dogfish, in fact their weights were only 1oz apart and they finished a very respectable second place.
Meanwhile G. Mummery and his partner K. Wilton's venture finished early as the lumpy seas took their toll causing Kelvin to suffer sea-sickness. Both still managed to boat a skate each though with G. Mummery bagging the biggest of the day at 7lbs 12.6oz and winning the heavy fish pool.
Eventual winners T. Morris and B. Morris returned with 5 skate between them along with dogfish and some nice sized whiting, this is the first time the pair have won this event in ten years of trying!
